I’m doing a home makeover this fall, how about you?

Maeve embarks on a mini home makeover - share in her journey below!

Hey there, how was your summer? Did you relax, maybe get some projects done? I tacked a mini home #makeover project onto my last days of summer. It’s not done, but I thought I’d share a bit of it to inspire you to make your own changes at home.

Every few years I shake things up in my home. I get itchy living the same way for too long. This year, I’m gearing up for some new furniture (finally!) – I’ve got a new sofa, rug and ottoman on the way from my favorite new furniture store.

But the rest, that’s all going to be DIY. I’m building a mid-century bookshelf to replace my existing room divider. I’m refinishing my kitchen table in a weathered wood grey finish. And best of all, I’m ditching a handful of starter-home pieces I’ve owned for (gulp) over 20 years (bye-bye IKEA coffee table!).

And finally, I’m this close to letting go of the signature colors that have defined my home for years, including my vermilion red wall. This is a pretty big change, but I’m ready for it.

So why the big share? Because I want you to know that even the most dedicated home decor and organization enthusiasts (me!) need a kick sometimes to get things done. I woke up one day and realized that my sofa–after 15 years–was done. I felt springs and the gig was up. I’ve been clinging to my home, but as soon as I decided to release my sofa, I was ready to ditch my bookshelf and toss my rug.

I’m just getting started, but I want to share the joy I’ve already found in this project: the moment I photographed my home for posterity I began to see the beauty in how I live. I saw the colors, the layers, and the nuances of my home, like how gorgeous rocks looking displayed on wood, or how soothing a flowing pathos and hanging holiday lights are beside my bed.

I’ll be sharing details on my home makeover in the coming months. In the meantime, if you’ve got amazing home transition photos, I’d love to see them! Send them to me or share them on Facebook, InstagramYouTube or Twitter. I love hearing from you! And if you’ve never done a mood board to explore new designs, give a whirl, it’s a lot of fun.
